Sweet creative cakes

I just recently purchased two great cookbook/lifestyle books and was really inspired by Jane Brocket and her fairy buns.
The use of color in her baking is so inspiring and creative even for a person that is not a baker like me!
I made the cup cakes for a dinner party and the chocolate cake was to take to a Thanksgiving meal we had with friends. Yes those are rolo's on top and maybe one day I will figure out how to make a chocolate turkey cake!

Its that time of year.

I saw these great wrist warmers on my fiend Jeanne's blog. Her work is really great, and the blog is worth a visit even if just to see her sweet kids wearing her creations.

I approached her for a pair and we were able to so a swop. How nice.
I made her this hat for a family member.
The ladybug button is vintage and the hat is lined with olive flannel and the outside is corduroy. It makes such a difference to use rick-rack in the crown seams looks really finished.

Turtle trunk show fun

Thanks to everyone at Turtle for a great trunk show last weekend. It was so much fun and very humbling to meet the women that shop at this great store. Thanks to all of you that visited and tried on the hats.

Only took two years!

Bibs. I finally made Ady some bibs last month. It only took almost two years. Thanks for the inspiration Jeanne!.
I did just trace bib to use as a pattern. Then scraps of cotton I had in the studio. Lined them with flannel and used old fabric diapers that was passed on from my sister for inside to make them really absorbent.

I used the biggest press studs I could find as closure and it is really secure.

Now I just need to make about 10 more!

Yellow

Another preview of what i am busy with for the Park School Market.
I thinks the black/white/green and bright yellow combination works so well for the weather at the moment. This scarf has some leather pieces sewn on.

The hat will need a black coat or herringbone jacket to show off the really bright yellow velour felt.

Crazy scarf.

I think I have just made a very vibrant scarf ! And I love it!
There is a lot of different textures. Velvet, tea dyed cotton, vintage cotton yo-yo's and black and white polka dot corduroy!

This scarf is for my ever growing collection for my next market. Park School Market Place.
Coming too soon.

The Store at DeCordova

New hats at the Store at the DeCordova museum in Lincoln.

Just dropped off 7 pieces at the DeCordova museum store. Great colours. Charcoal, wine, navy and black. All velour felt decorated with leaves. I used felt and sewed onto the felt with contrasting thread.

All small shapes to hug the head in the cold days to come.

PS Lincoln is so beautiful right now lots of leaves everywhere.

Asher's new winter hat.

I am really happy with how this came out. It is so warm. Made from a double layer of flannel.
I also like this earflaps without the tie. He will keep a hat on, no matter what. I like that about him.

The little robot face is just fun.

New fall fashion

The new fall hats and scarfs are at Turtle!
This season lots of yellow, leopard, pink, black and white. Also look for wide long soft and comfy scarfs.
I used a lot of vintage feathers and velour flowers.
Let me know what you think.

Pink Sequin in the news.

I am so happy that one of my new cuffs made it into Boston Magazines fall fashion issue!
Follow the link below and go to page two . The cuff looks great with the 3.1 Phillip Lim silk-cotton dress.

Fruitful summer .

I am so happy!
This is the first summer since the kids were born that I have a garden again.
I was lucky enough to share a plot in a community garden with my friend Alta.

It is really just the right size and although I did not spend as much time there as I should have we are now eating from that little patch.

I have made pesto twice! And tonight has a great pesto , mozzarella and onion pizza with a salad of mustard greens, butter lettuce and cherry tomatoes. The corn is from Allandale farm.(love them!)

I also managed to make peach jam.(from the store) I did not use pectin and added ginger . This is a trick I learned form my Mom and  Grandmother. It really gives a great taste to the jam.

Hope you all had a great summer.

Dress for Ady

I finally finished a dress for Ady. I have had it cut out for the longest time but got totally wrapped up in summer! So this week I tried to get back to work, JPOS is just around the corner, so I had to clear my table.

This dress was made with New Look #6796 it is marked easy and it really is. I made the dress version but now also have a top I am working on.

She looks so great in it I found myself really cleaning her after lunch just to make sure she can wear it again this weekend. But i will have to wash it before  the party we are going to on Sunday.
Can she wear it every second day? So many options, with a t-shirt under with pants without pants etc.

Studio,workspace

Here are a few pictures of my every changing workspace. It is sometimes so hard to keep it tidy and although I have so much work space I end up cutting on the floor and working on the big table. Not photos of that as then I will have to admit to chaos! Can I have more buttons and goodies and bits and bobs I think I might use? The thing is sometimes I have to buy more!

Vogue and the "W" has been full of great colour and hat pics this season. I am always amazed by what I actually "get" from all this. The creative proses is really sometimes just waiting for things to come to you .  You just need a lot of patience but I have the kids so I have some of that left!

Summer pants for A

I finished the pants for Asher. He loves the soft fabric . Easy to make and all I did was a elastic band in the waist and I sewed on a different color band around one knee just to make it look more interesting.

Will be making more form this Burda pattern!

Pants

Finally got around to cutting, sewing and fitting pants for my son. I am using a Burda pattern and it is very easy. I just lengthened the original a bit and it fits like a dream. Hope to finish them soon.
I found a lovely patchwork blue fabric.

Retro lamp redo

I found this great retro lamp in my local thrift store. I am amazed that the glass did not break over the years. Now the redo starts. What fun!!!!!
Mike will have to first repair the wiring and then I have the task of finding the PERFECT new lampshade. I am thinking of black and white geometric design. I think this will go well with the aqua glass. But red and white will also look striking.
Will post a photo when the project is done.
